A hot & cold multi-sensory group ritual to reconnect with yourself, with Nature, and with others

The Sauna Ritual

A Sauna Ritual is a multi-sensory group experience that usually lasts about 2 hours. The size of each ritual will depend on the size of the sauna, and can range from 6-22 participants.
I guide intuitively and lead from the heart, reflecting the needs and energy of everyone in the group. With nature and the elements to support us, I will lead you through four rounds in and out of the sauna, using the elements of AIR, WATER, FIRE & EARTH to mark each round.

Lithuanian Pirtis & Finnish Saunotus

Lithuanian Pirtis and Finnish Saunotus are ancient practices of ritual used in the sauna, to promote relaxation and purification. A Sauna guide will use salt inhalations, body scrubs and whisks, along with songs and mythology to enhance your bathing ritual and promote relaxation and purification, whilst connecting with the Löyly (the steam).

Salt Infusions

Salt infusions in a sauna treatment can be particularly beneficial for the respiratory system, helping to reduce inflammation and provide relief for congestion. Skin can also feel revitalised and cleansed, and mental well-being can improve as the salt helps to create a calming environment.

Body scrubs

Body scrubs are used for massage and bodywork, to help cleanse and detoxify the skin, and promote blood flow. All the body scrubs I use are handmade using salt or sugar as a base, blended with a variety of herbs and plants, dependent on the season, and foraged along the Cornish coastline.

Sauna Whisks

You will each receive a whisking as part of the treatment, by myself and by each other. This involves the use of sauna whisks. These are small bundles of leaves, usually made from Birch, Oak or Linden, and other tree species. Each tree has specific benefits, that can help to improve wellbeing through the release of its nutrients. During a whisking, these will be released into the skin, helping to promote blood-flow with mood boosting properties.

A multi-sensory experience that will leave you feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and reconnected

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about a sauna ritual

A sauna ritual usually lasts about 2 hours, but we don’t stay in the sauna the whole time. We have in-rounds and out-rounds, which means we will be in the sauna and out the sauna, with a contrast of hot AND cold.

  • Pre-hydrate with water
  • Eat a light meal about 2 hours before the sauna
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to allow yourself some time and spend to change and be ready to begin
  • 2 towels – 1 to sit on, 1 to dry off with
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Something warm and comfortable to change into afterwards

You can wear swimwear or sauna wear. The more natural the fabric the better. Sauna hats can help with the heat, but they are not essential

Sauna rituals are for everyone. I will guide you through the experience.

You are always welcome to step out of the heat if you feel unwell. It is important to listen to your own body. Please let me know before the ritual begins if you have any concerns, so that I can support your needs.

  • Rehydrate with water. Electroytes can also be helpful.
  • Eat well.
  • Allow yourself some time to integrate the experience
